PTDI and Bapanas Promote Healthy Sorghum-Based Food Consumption Through the B2SA Goes to School Program
Bandung (20/11) – As part of its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) initiative, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) collaborated with the National Food Agency (Bapanas) to support the improvement of national food consumption quality through a Socialization and Education Program on Diverse, Nutritious, Balanced, and Safe Food Consumption (B2SA), using sorghum-based products for 721 elementary and junior high school students within the Company’s vicinity. The B2SA Program, a government initiative led by the Directorate of Food Consumption Diversification at Bapanas, serves as a strategic effort to expand public education on healthy and diverse food consumption, including among students.
The event took place at the B.J. Habibie Auditorium, PKSN Building, PTDI Bandung, and was attended by PTDI’s Production Director, Dena Hendriana; the Director of Food Consumption Diversification at Bapanas, Rinna Syawal; Chairman of the Sorghum Center Indonesia & Paguyuban Pasundan Board Member, Wisnu Cahyadi; as well as representatives from the Adhya Garini Foundation of Lanud Husein Sastranegara, Ista Robi, and several Regional Apparatus Organizations of West Java Province.
PTDI–Bapanas Collaboration in the B2SA Goes to School Program
The collaboration between PTDI and Bapanas in this B2SA Goes to School program is a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties in August 2024 regarding Synergy for the Enhancement of Food Security and Sorghum-Based New Renewable Energy. The agreement specifically covers the dissemination of B2SA food education, assistance in improving food consumption quality, as well as the development and capacity enhancement of alternative food production.
Through this program, PTDI and Bapanas strengthen the utilization of sorghum as a highly nutritious local food commodity, while promoting early awareness among younger generations about healthier food alternatives that support consumption diversification and national food security.
According to Rinna Syawal, Director of Food Consumption Diversification at Bapanas, “Feeling full should not always come from rice. Today, we introduced sorghum to students as an alternative food that can replace rice. B2SA aims to educate students on consumption patterns that are Diverse, Nutritious, Balanced, and Safe. If we previously knew the concept of ‘4 Healthy 5 Perfect,’ it has now been updated to B2SA to promote more accurate nutritional understanding.”
PTDI’s Role in Technology Development and the Sorghum Ecosystem
Aligned with PTDI’s TJSL focus in the food sector, the Company continues to promote sorghum utilization through technical support and processing technology development, including the creation and provision of sorghum processing machines, along with training and technical assistance for farmers and MSMEs in operating equipment, adopting technology, and applying best practices in sorghum agricultural processing.
This commitment is part of PTDI’s efforts to accelerate the realization of an innovative, productive, and self-sustaining agricultural ecosystem. It also continues the development of the Sorghum Center, established in 2023 together with Pasundan University (Unpas), which serves as a hub for research, education, and downstream development of sorghum commodities. In October 2025, PTDI and the West Java Office of Food Crops and Horticulture (Distanhorti) also conducted a Joint Sorghum Planting activity at the Service Unit for Rice and Secondary Crop Seed Centers (UPTD Balai Benih Padi dan Palawija) in Plumbon, Cirebon, to expand sorghum cultivation across West Java. This initiative continues the pentahelix collaboration between the Government, PTDI, and various stakeholders, with the aim of strengthening farmer capacity and supporting broader and sustainable national food security.
“Through the Sorghum Center that we established in 2023, PTDI is committed to promoting food diversification and strengthening farmer independence in West Java. Sorghum has great potential as a strategic alternative food commodity to support national food diversification. Therefore, it is an honor for us to participate in B2SA Goes to School to introduce sorghum as a healthy food substitute for rice to the younger generation,” said Dena Hendriana, Production Director of PTDI.
The joint efforts of PTDI and Bapanas in promoting sorghum-based food consumption not only provide short-term benefits through improved food literacy among students, but also create long-term sustainable impact. This synergy is a strategic step in strengthening national food diversification, supporting food security amid climate change challenges, and opening opportunities for the development of the sorghum processing industry that involves local farmers and MSMEs. By expanding sorghum utilization from upstream to downstream, PTDI and Bapanas aim to build a more resilient, self-reliant, and sustainable food ecosystem, while delivering tangible contributions to the nation’s social and economic development.
