50th Anniversary: PTDI Inaugurates N219 Final Assembly Line Hangar to Accelerate Production

IndoAviation Plus – PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) has inaugurated its N219 Final Assembly Line (FAL) Hangar in celebration of its 50th anniversary. This upgraded hangar will be used for the finalization of the 19-passenger aircraft manufactured by PTDI. The new hangar is also intended to boost N219 production to meet market demand.

The inauguration was held in conjunction with the National Symposium marking PTDI's 50th Anniversary, themed "Strengthening Air Connectivity for Equitable Development, Economic Growth, and the Independence of Indonesia's Aviation Industry," in Bandung, on Wednesday (26/8/2026).

Deputy Minister of National Development Planning/Deputy Head of the National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas), Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, said that the N219 aircraft is greatly needed for pioneer flights, particularly in Papua.

"Earlier there was a signing related to the N219, then the symposium, and there was a handover of the first part cutting of the N219 to the first commercial company in Indonesia, namely PT Mitra Aviasi Perkasa," said Deputy Minister Febrian.

He also stated that PTDI's development of the N219 business represents a leap forward in capturing the market for aircraft types suited to multifunctional flights such as the N219. This twin-engine multifunctional aircraft has good market potential domestically, particularly in areas with airfields that have short runways.

"There are dozens of regencies in Indonesia that seem suitable to be served by the N219, namely for transportation, cargo, medical, and tourism purposes, especially for outermost, frontier, underdeveloped, and border regions. So this is essentially a strategic investment as a connector between islands and a way to open up connectivity," he said.

According to Deputy Minister Febrian, the interest in the N219 from a commercial company is extraordinary, since until now orders have come from the government, and this can add to confidence in an aircraft that is a product of the nation's own people.

PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan said that orders for the commercial version of the N219 aircraft already stood at four units and have now increased by three more, bringing the total to seven units. PTDI is currently ramping up its commercial N219 aircraft business.

"PTDI is ready to produce various variants of the N219 aircraft, depending on orders, such as for ambulance and amphibious versions. With the new hangar dedicated to the N219, production capacity can reach 12 units per year," he explained.

Before the new hangar, production capacity was only 4–6 units per year. One N219 military version, ordered by the Indonesian Army (TNI AD), is currently being produced. The first N219 aircraft, out of five units ordered by TNI AD, is expected to be completed by December 2026.

Also in December 2026, the Directorate of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations (DKPPU) of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation is targeting the issuance of the N219-100 Type Certificate. The first certificate for the N219 type was issued in 2020, followed by the N219-100 Certification Application in 2024. The next target is for the Type Certificate for the amphibious version of the N219-100 to be issued in 2029.

The symposium noted that there is a need for around six hundred aircraft in the N219 class for pioneer flights, particularly in Papua. However, this need has not yet translated into a market for PTDI, and this remains a task PTDI still needs to address.

On the other hand, Papua indeed has a great need for aircraft to support the mobility of its people. Take, for example, Memberamo Raya Regency, which has 14 airfields with short airstrips. The regional government, supported by members of the Regional Representative Council/People's Consultative Assembly (DPD/MPR RI), has requested that the runways of these airfields be paved, as they are still covered with grass or dirt.

Septo Sudiro, President Director of PT Mitra Aviasi Perkasa, who received the N219 first cutting and ordered four of the aircraft, expressed hope that all pioneer flights in Indonesia would use the N219. He stated that the first aircraft he ordered is expected to be delivered in 2028.
