Air Force Flying School to PTDI Soon to Be Relocated to Kertajati

The plan has been reported to President Prabowo Subianto and received a positive response.

The Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) plans to relocate the Air Force Flying School and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) to West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati, Majalengka Regency. The plan was discussed in a meeting between the Ministry of Defense and the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi (KDM), at BIJB Kertajati on Thursday (10/1/2026).

The Head of the Defense Logistics Agency of the Ministry of Defense, Air Marshal Yusuf Jauhari, said the relocation includes the Air Force Flying School along with mess facilities at Sugiri Sukani Air Force Base, Air Squadrons previously based at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, as well as PTDI and a number of companies partnering with PTDI.

"We hope construction will begin in January. The flying school in November or December if permitted, so that there is activity," Yusuf stated in a written statement on Saturday (10/3/2026).

This step is part of the development plan for BIJB Kertajati to support defense and aerospace industry activities. The plan, Yusuf said, has been reported to President Prabowo Subianto and received a positive response.

The meeting between the Ministry of Defense and the West Java Provincial Government at BIJB Kertajati is a follow-up to previous discussions at Lembur Pakuan, Subang Regency. The collaboration between the Ministry of Defense and the West Java Provincial Government will subsequently be outlined in a cooperation agreement.

KDM stated that in the initial phase, the development of the area will focus on establishing a defense and aerospace industry ecosystem, rather than commercial activities.

"In the first phase, we are not thinking about commercial aspects first, crowds or growth, but in the first phase we are thinking about PTDI being here, then MRO here, foreign aircraft repair shops here, and supporting industries here," KDM said.

According to KDM, the presence of these various facilities and industries will eventually drive trade activities involving other regions and even other countries.

"It is impossible for everything to be local; there will certainly be inter-regional transfers, inter-provincial transfers, inter-country transfers, and ultimately commercial needs will grow," he added emphatically.
