Research Minister Reviews Final Testing of N219 Aircraft

PRESS RELEASE

Bandung, December 11, 2020 - PTDI Public Relations

The N219 aircraft by the nation's children is the result of the collaboration between PTDI and LAPAN which on August 16, 2017 has conducted the first flight test and on November 10, 2017 to coincide with Heroes' Day was named Nurtanio by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, currently approaching the final stage of testing to obtain a Type Certificated from DKPPU Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia.

Minister of Research and Technology / Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency, Prof. Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro, Ph.D. and Deputy for Aviation and Space Technology of LAPAN, Dr. Rika Andiarti accompanied by PTDI President Director, Elfien Goentoro reviewed the flight test of the N219 Prototype Design 2 aircraft on the Final Assembly Line KP II PTDI hangar apron, Bandung.

Minister of Research and Technology/Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency, Bambang Brodjonegoro expressed his appreciation to all parties involved in the development and certification process of the N219 aircraft.

"Thank you for the cooperation and hard work between LAPAN and PTDI who have developed and ensured this aircraft is complete and ready for testing. And also we would like to thank the support of the Ministry of Transportation, especially DKPPU, which will not only provide permission or registration for this aircraft but also with the support of the test pilots who are beside me who have certainly spent quite a lot of time to ensure that this aircraft will be a safe aircraft, an aircraft that is needed by our country," said Bambang Brodjonegoro, Minister of Research and Technology / Head of BRIN.

The Minister also expressed his appreciation to PTDI for its first achievement as a full integrator of the N219 aircraft because from the design stage to manufacture and also has involved various industries related to aircraft components.

"Hopefully the production value chain or the Indonesian aircraft industry can be realized and we continue to hope to increase TKDN, which is currently almost 40%, hopefully we can immediately increase it above 50%. And of course once again we hope that this N219 aircraft can be the beginning of the revival of the Aerospace industry in Indonesia," continued Bambang Brodjonegoro.

The certification process is an important process to ensure security and safety because it will be used by users and the general public. PTDI uses two prototype aircraft to accelerate the flight test certification process, where these two aircraft have their respective missions.

The first N219 Nurtanio aircraft prototype underwent a series of tests, namely completing aircraft performance testing, stability and control characteristics and aircraft structure flight tests, while the second N219 Nurtanio aircraft prototype was used for testing aircraft sub-systems, such as avionic systems, electrical systems, flight control and propulsion.

"We can prove as Indonesians that we are able and capable of designing and developing, building this aircraft from scratch until it becomes a complete aircraft which then goes through testing which is also carried out by regulators in Indonesia itself and hopefully it will become the pride of all of us because this aircraft will unite the territory of Indonesia which stretches from Sabang to Merauke from Miangas Island to Rote Island," said Bambang Brodjonegoro.

Type certificate is an airworthiness certification of an aircraft manufacturing design. This certificate is issued by the civil airworthiness authority, in this case the authority in the territory of Indonesia is the Directorate of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operation (DKPPU), Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia.

PTDI President Director Elfien Goentoro revealed that the N219 aircraft was specifically designed to be able to support the Air Bridge program in accordance with Presidential Regulation No. 70 of 2017 concerning the Implementation of Public Service Obligations for the Transport of Goods From and to Disadvantaged, Remote, Outermost and Border Areas. The N219 aircraft can reach areas with hilly georaphic conditions with short and unprepared runways.

Initial production of the N219 aircraft will be made 4 units of N219 aircraft using the currently available production capacity, henceforth PTDI will upgrade production facilities with an automation system in manufacturing, so that gradually the delivery capability will continue to increase in accordance with market needs.

"N219 aircraft production starts from 4 aircraft per year. But to fulfill the market share, the production facilities will be upgraded with an automation system," said Elfien Goentoro.
