PTDI Indonesia Expands Service Coverage, Capable of Servicing Military to Commercial Aircraft

ZONAJAKARTA.com - PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is the only aerial platform manufacturer in Indonesia, and even in Southeast Asia. Previously, PTDI was known as IPTN (Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara), founded by the Father of Technology in Indonesia, BJ Habibie.

However, due to the economic crisis of 1997-98, IPTN was forced to go dormant, with several services including aircraft production strictly limited. Eventually, IPTN resumed operations in 2000 and changed its name to PT Dirgantara Indonesia.

Since its establishment until now, IPTN/PTDI has produced several aircraft, including the CN235, NC212i, and NC219. PTDI has even opened collaborations with external parties, such as Airbus, in manufacturing the H225M Caracal helicopter, AS565 MBe Panther, H135, and H145.

In addition to manufacturing and selling products, PTDI also provides aircraft servicing. Domestic operators of CN235, NC212i, and NC219 have their aircraft serviced at PTDI, including foreign clients.

In addition to successfully selling its aircraft to foreign countries, PTDI also provides service support for its foreign customers. For example, the CN235 aircraft of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will receive services under the Service Life Extension Program (SLEP).

"One unit of CN235-110 belonging to the United Arab Emirates Air Force & Air Defence (UAE AFAD) arrived at the PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) facility in Bandung on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 14:30 WIB, to undergo the Service Life Extension Program (SLEP)," PTDI explained on its Instagram (April 16, 2025).

This is a continuation of the agreement between PTDI and the UAE at the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) held from February 17-21, 2025, in Abu Dhabi. During that event, PTDI extended the contract regarding SLEP for the CN235 aircraft of the UAE Air Force.

"In order to maintain fleet readiness, IDEX 2025 becomes a strategic momentum for PTDI to follow up on the potential Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) contract for the UAE Air Force's CN235 aircraft," explained PTDI on its official website.

The SLEP program aims to extend the operational lifespan of the aircraft. SLEP ensures that the aircraft remains optimal in carrying out various missions.

"To ensure that the aircraft has a new operational period and can operate again with better performance and equipped with modern avionics, we are always committed to providing maintenance solutions and enhancing aircraft capabilities sustainably. Through this SLEP program, we not only extend the aircraft's service life but also ensure optimal operational readiness according to mission requirements in the customer environment," said Amperiawan, the President Director of PTDI.

UEA is a user of the CN235 aircraft manufactured by PTDI, which they use for VIP transportation and military operations.

PTDI has also offered this SLEP program to the African and Latin American markets. According to an article dated (2/7/24) titled 'PTDI Targets Expanding Market in Africa for NC-212i and CN-235', PTDI indeed wants to expand its market share into Africa and Latin America.

'PTDI is exploring opportunities to expand its market in Africa and Latin America for the sale of NC-212i and CN-235 aircraft,' it explained.

In an effort to expand its services, PTDI also offers commercial aircraft servicing.

"PTDI continues to expand the scope of its Aircraft Services (ACS) as part of its business diversification strategy. Not limited to military aircraft maintenance, PTDI is now also actively reaching out to the general aviation sector, as well as deepening its penetration into commercial aircraft maintenance with an increasingly diverse market segment and types of work.

Currently, PTDI is intensifying its expansion to seize opportunities in the non-military aircraft market. One of the ways is by providing new livery paint services for general aviation with various types of private jets, such as Boeing Business Jet (BBJ), Gulfstream G450/G550, and Embraer Legacy 600/650, which can be further developed to include various advanced jobs according to customer requests and specifications. For commercial aircraft, particularly narrow-body, PTDI has recently completed painting work, along with seat replacement and several other additional jobs such as cabin refurbishment."

For commercial aircraft, especially narrow body, PTDI has recently completed painting work, along with seat replacement and several other additional tasks such as cabin refurbishment on the Airbus A319 owned by Aero Dili airline, Timor Leste.Currently, a major maintenance (C-Check) is also taking place at PTDI's Bandung hangar on the Airbus A320 owned by Citilink Indonesia, which is a collaborative program between PTDI and GMF AeroAsia, PTDI explained on its website (4/8/25).

This step is also part of PTDI's strategy to make the hangar in PTDI Bandung a center for integrated MRO services, not only for the military aircraft sector but also for commercial aircraft and general aviation.

Until now, PTDI's ACS services have been trusted by more than 50 customers spread across three continents, demonstrating global recognition of PTDI's capabilities and service quality.

In line with this, PTDI is currently seeking to obtain authorization from international aviation authorities as part of a strategic effort to strengthen competitiveness and expand market reach globally.
