N219 Enters Domestic Commercial Market, New Weapon for Remote Area Logistics
Bandung, Bandung — PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) officially signed a sales contract for four N219 aircraft with PT Mitra Aviasi Perkasa (MAP), marking the first step in commercializing the nation's aircraft in the domestic market.
The signing, which took place at PTDI's Aircraft Services hangar in Bandung on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, marks the first N219 contract for the domestic commercial segment. Under this scheme, MAP will act as both buyer and operator, with a primary focus on cargo transportation in pioneering regions.
The agreement includes the procurement of four N219 cargo configurations, complete with training and technical support. The production process through to delivery of the aircraft will be carried out in stages after the contract is declared effective.
This step is not a stand-alone initiative. The presence of representatives from the Ministry of National Development Planning and the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia at the signing ceremony affirms the government's support for the use of the N219 as the backbone of air transportation in remote, frontier, and outermost regions (3TP).
PTDI President Director, Gita Amperiawan, emphasized that the N219 was specifically designed to address Indonesia's geographical challenges.
"This aircraft is designed for pioneering flights, with the capability to operate on short runways of less than 1 km and unpaved runways. For hilly terrain, this aircraft has a very low stall speed, making it easy to maneuver and operate in difficult terrain. From an operational perspective, this aircraft is also designed with competitive operating costs, easy maintenance, and after-sales service support from PTDI," said Gita on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
With these characteristics, the N219 is positioned not just as a transport aircraft, but as an instrument for opening up economic access. Logistics distribution, community mobility, and connectivity between remote areas are expected to be boosted by the presence of this fleet.
Deputy Minister of National Development Planning, Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, called this contract a strategic moment in strengthening national technological sovereignty.
"Today we are witnessing a historic signing, as PTDI has signed a contract to sell the N219 to a private company for private commercial aviation. This is not an ordinary contract signing, but rather a commitment to ensuring that we will not continue to rely on solutions not designed by ourselves. These solutions must be domestic, not foreign. And the N219 aircraft is a symbol of all this, not just a product, but a statement of technological sovereignty built by the nation's children to meet domestic needs with a sufficiently strong TKDN (domestic content)," said Febrian.
PTDI noted that the domestic component level (TKDN) for the N219 reached 44.69 percent. This figure provides a starting point for strengthening the national aerospace industry and increasing product competitiveness in the domestic market.
Going forward, the development of the N219 business ecosystem is expected to depend on synergy across ministries and agencies. In addition to policy support, operational sustainability in pioneering regions is also key to ensuring this aircraft truly becomes a primary mode of transportation, not just an alternative.
With this inaugural contract, PTDI is sending a strong signal: the domestic market is beginning to open up space for domestically manufactured aircraft to compete, especially in niches that have previously been difficult to reach—pioneer regions with high logistics needs but limited infrastructure.
