PT DI N219 Aircraft Enters Commercial Market
Geonews.id, Bandung - PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI)'s N219 aircraft has entered the commercial market with the sale of four units to PT Mitra Aviasi Perkasa. The aircraft can be used for flights to Indonesia's outermost islands.
Deputy Minister of National Development Planning (PPN/Bappenas) Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard stated that the signing of the contract for the sale and purchase of four N219 aircraft owned by PT DI to a private company is historic. This is because the sale was made to a private company for commercial flights.
"We've heard about purchases entirely by the state and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). But this is the first of its kind, and I think it's a significant milestone that we should remember because it signifies the trust of the commercial sector in PT Dirgantara Indonesia's products," he said during the contract signing ceremony at the Aircraft Services Hangar on Tuesday (May 5, 2026).
He said the N219 aircraft has specifications and unique characteristics that can meet aviation needs in Indonesia, especially in the outermost islands. He hopes Indonesia will not only be a market but also has the potential to improve the aviation industry.
"Don't let that capability be lost just because it can't be used in the commercial market," he said.
PT DI President Director Gita Amperiawan said the N219 aircraft was produced for pioneering flights in regional areas. He said the aircraft can operate on short runways of less than 1 kilometer or a maximum of 800 meters.
He also said the aircraft's maneuverability allows for landing or takeoff on runways with difficult terrain. Meanwhile, from an operational and maintenance perspective, competitiveness is prioritized, including after-sales support.
This includes two aircraft engines for safe ocean crossings. Gita said the N219 is 100 percent Indonesian-made.
With a domestic component level (TKDN) of 44.96 percent for the N219, he said it will stimulate the Indonesian aerospace industry. He said production of the N219 aircraft will take 24 months, after which aircraft will be delivered every three months.
"In mid-2027, we will be ready for commercial deliveries," he said.
He added that a contract with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) had been signed, and the N219 aircraft would be delivered by the end of 2026.
Meanwhile, PT Mitra Aviasi Perkasa CEO Septo Sudiro stated that his company will use four N219 aircraft to operate in the island region. He will then assess other requirements.
"We'll start with four first. We'll operate them in areas that require them, and then the rest will depend on the needs," he said.
