Initial N219 Contract Signed in Bandung, PTDI Sells 4 Cargo Planes for 3TP Pioneer Flights
RADARBANDUNG.ID, BANDUNG CITY – A major step forward for the national aerospace industry has officially begun. PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) signed a sales contract for four N219 aircraft with PT Mitra Aviasi Perkasa (PT MAP), marking the first commercial contract for the N219 in the domestic market and opening a new chapter in strengthening air transportation in Indonesia's remote areas.
The signing took place at the PTDI Aircraft Services Hangar in Bandung by Moh. Arif Faisal, Director of Commerce, Technology & Development of PTDI, and Septo Adjie Sudiro, CEO of PT MAP. The signing was witnessed by Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, Deputy Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas, representatives from the Ministry of Transportation, commissioners, and the Board of Directors of PTDI.
The presence of Bappenas and the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia at this ceremony affirms the government's full support for the use of the N219 aircraft as the backbone of air transportation in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions (3TP).
The contract covers the procurement of four N219 cargo-configured aircraft, complete with training, technical documentation, and operational support. The production process through to delivery will be carried out in stages after the contract is declared effective.
This agreement marks a significant milestone as it is the first N219 contract for the domestic commercial market. Under this arrangement, PT MAP acts not only as the buyer but also as the operator, operating the aircraft on pioneering routes.
PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan emphasized that the N219 was specifically designed to address Indonesia's geographical challenges. This aircraft is capable of taking off and landing on short runways of less than one kilometer, including unpaved ones.
This capability is enhanced by its low stall speed characteristics, making the aircraft more stable when maneuvering in hilly areas and areas with extreme conditions. This makes it an ideal solution for areas difficult to reach by conventional transportation.
Furthermore, from an operational perspective, the N219 is designed with competitive costs, relatively easy maintenance, and direct after-sales support from PTDI, which adds value to operators in the long term.
More than just a product, the N219 also carries a national strategic mission. With a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) reaching 44.69 percent, this aircraft is a symbol of domestic technological and industrial independence.
The Deputy Minister of National Development Planning (Bappenas), Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, called the signing a historic moment. He stated that this contract is not simply a business transaction, but a strong statement that Indonesia is capable of providing its own technological solutions.
He emphasized that dependence on foreign products must begin to be reduced, and the N219 is proof that Indonesian innovation can independently meet national transportation needs.
From a functional perspective, the N219 is expected to accelerate logistics distribution to remote areas, open access to public mobility, and stimulate local economic growth that has been hampered by limited infrastructure.
This aircraft is also projected to be an enabler for equitable development, particularly in the 3TP (Three-Private Transport) regions, which have traditionally relied on limited and high-cost transportation modes.
Going forward, the development of the N219 business ecosystem will not stop at production but will also require synergy across ministries and institutions, including policy support for sustainable operations.
Through this contract, PTDI (Persero) is increasingly optimistic about the N219's acceptance in the domestic market. This agreement also reinforces the N219's position as a real solution for national air transportation, designed, manufactured, and operated for the benefit of Indonesia. (dsn)
