PTDI Delivers Multifunctional NC212i Aircraft to the Indonesian Air Force, Capable of Transporting Troops and Supporting Rainmaking Operations
DESKJABAR – PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) has once again demonstrated the capabilities of Indonesia’s defense industry by delivering one NC212i aircraft specially configured to support various missions of the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU). The multifunctional aircraft is capable of carrying out Troop Transport, Rainmaking, and Camera missions, making it a strategic asset in supporting both military and humanitarian operations.
The aircraft was delivered from PTDI’s Delivery Center in Bandung to Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base in Malang on Thursday, July 30, 2026. Bearing tail number AX-2135, the aircraft is the eighth of a total of nine NC212i aircraft ordered by the Indonesian Ministry of Defense (Kemhan RI) for operation by the Indonesian Air Force.
PTDI Production Director Dena Hendriana said the delivery demonstrates the company’s commitment to fulfilling national defense equipment requirements while strengthening the Indonesian Air Force’s operational readiness.
“Alhamdulillah, today we are conducting the ferry flight as part of PTDI’s commitment to fulfilling the order from the Indonesian Ministry of Defense. This is the eighth unit out of a total of nine aircraft ordered. We hope this aircraft will further strengthen the Indonesian Air Force’s capabilities in safeguarding the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Dena.
Key Advantages of the Aircraft
One of the key advantages of the latest NC212i is its ability to perform multiple missions on a single platform. In addition to transporting military personnel, the aircraft can be utilized for weather modification or rainmaking operations to help address forest fires and drought. The aircraft can also carry out aerial photography missions for mapping, area surveillance, and disaster response.
In terms of technology, the NC212i is equipped with MTV-27 propellers manufactured by MT Propeller, Germany, which have been certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The propellers offer lower noise and vibration levels, more stable performance during single-engine operations, and smoother engine starts. The propellers have also demonstrated compatibility with the Honeywell TPE331 engine, thereby improving operational efficiency and comfort.
The aircraft was flown by Lt. Col. Pnb Andika Ardyagana as the Ferry Pilot in Command, accompanied by Captain Irvan Fajar as the Copilot. Before being delivered to Malang, the aircraft had obtained its Flight Acceptance Certificate on July 9, 2026, confirming that it had met all flightworthiness requirements.
According to Lt. Col. Andika, test results showed that the aircraft’s performance had reached its maximum capabilities in accordance with its specifications. He expressed hope that the latest NC212i would further strengthen the Indonesian Air Force’s capabilities in safeguarding Indonesia’s airspace, while demonstrating that the domestic defense industry is capable of producing high-quality aircraft.
