When strategic machinery must be maintained, repaired, or overhauled with technological support from abroad, economic value flows out along with it.

PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) is attempting to reverse that situation from Bandung.

Through its subsidiary PT Nusantara Turbin dan Propulsi (PT NTP), PTDI has expanded its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities for the Solar Turbines Taurus™ 60, a gas turbine used in sectors including oil and gas as well as power generation.

This capability was inaugurated at PT NTP's facility in Bandung on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Alongside this, PT NTP also inaugurated an overhaul-exchange facility and domestic assembly capability for the Solar Turbines Taurus™ 60 Single Shaft engine.

This is not merely the addition of a workshop facility. Behind it lies a larger contest: whoever controls the technology is the one who reaps the industry's added value.

PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan said that the strengthening of PT NTP is part of an effort to build a national industrial ecosystem, rather than making PTDI merely an aircraft manufacturer.

"As our subsidiary, PT NTP has a focus and expertise in engineering and MRO, particularly for aero engines, industrial gas turbines, and rotating equipment," said PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan in a press statement on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The development of PT NTP's capabilities is an important part of strengthening PTDI's business ecosystem and MRO capabilities.

This development is also part of the commitment to continuously improve technological mastery and domestic industrial independence.

"Technological mastery must continue to be supported through improving human resource competence, developing facilities, and sustained cooperation with partners," Gita added.

PT NTP is actually not a new player. The company has long been trusted as an Authorized MRO Shop for Solar Turbines in Indonesia. Its relationship with Solar Turbines and PT Indoturbine has in fact been ongoing since 1987.

Now, the Taurus™ 60 serves as a gateway to expanding that capability.

The issue at stake is not simply who can repair a turbine. MRO is part of the energy industry's value chain. The more high-value work that can be carried out domestically, the greater Indonesia's opportunity to retain foreign exchange, build technical expertise, and create supporting industries.

PT NTP President Director Suryanto described this development as a response to the industry's ever-changing needs.

"Today's inauguration is not merely an addition of capability for PT NTP alone. More than that, this moment is part of our collective effort to respond to the industry's dynamic needs, provide better service to all our customers, and strengthen national industrial independence, particularly in the oil and gas sector," said PT NTP President Director Suryanto.

The challenge now is ensuring that this technological mastery does not stop at the inauguration ceremony. The facility may stand in Bandung, but the true measure of success is how much of the work, expertise, investment, and added value of the energy industry can genuinely remain in Indonesia.
