Harteknas 2025: PTDI and the Bandung City Government Realize Bandung as an Aerospace City
DESKJABAR – The city of Bandung has been proclaimed as an icon to become an Aerospace City, backed by the presence of the aviation industry and aviation business potential in this city. The proclamation of Bandung as an aerospace city was carried out by PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) in collaboration with the Bandung City Government on Monday, August 11, 2025.
During the commemoration of Harteknas 2025 (National Technology Awakening Day), PTDI held a national seminar themed 'Forging The Future: Building Global Aerospace Frontier From Bandung', which was open to the general public at the B.J. Habibie Auditorium, PTDI Bandung.
To support the aerospace city icon, there are plans to build the N250 aircraft monument at the entrance of the city of Bandung. This is because the N250 aircraft is made by PT Dirgantara Indonesia in Bandung, featuring revolutionary technology for the world's commercial propeller aircraft class.
The Harteknas 2025 seminar is part of the series of events celebrating the 49th anniversary of PTDI, while also reinforcing Bandung's strategic role as the center for national aerospace industry development.
The Mayor of Bandung, M Farhan, stated that Bandung City aims to become an aerospace city so that people who come to Bandung can learn about the ins and outs of aerospace. To strengthen its position as an aerospace city, the Bandung city government fully supports various aspects of aviation activities, including the aerospace industry.
"Bandung City is the center of aerospace industry development that has been built with an ecosystem since the Dutch colonial era and continues to develop to this day, as there is PT Dirgantara Indonesia," he explained.
The Harteknas 2025 seminar at PTDI was attended by the Mayor of Bandung, M Farhan, Head of the Bandung City Bapperida, Anton Sunarwibowo; from the education sector, Professor of History at Padjadjaran University, Reiza Dienaputra; from the industry, President Director of PTDI Gita Amperiawan, Director of Marketing, Technology & Development PTDI, Moh Arif Faisal, and Director of Finance, Risk Management & HR PTDI, Dhias Widhiyati; and from the aerospace and aeronautics experts, Ilham Akbar Habibie.
Visionary Inspiration
In the panel discussion session, each speaker presented strategic views to explore and strengthen the aerospace values of the City of Bandung, including the role of PTDI as a driving force for the national aerospace ecosystem.
Starting from the visionary outlook of B.J. Habibie—Indonesia's Minister of Research and Technology and then President Director of IPTN—the idea to establish a Sister City collaboration between the city of Bandung and Fort Worth, Texas, USA was born.
Inspired by IPTN's collaboration with Bell Helicopters in 1982, this idea was eventually realized in 1990 through the official inauguration of a partnership that encompasses education, culture, trade, and economy.
More than just an exchange of knowledge and strengthening of relationships among communities, the cooperation opens the way for the emergence of great opportunities in the industrial and trade sectors. This historical legacy serves as a source of inspiration for the young people at PTDI to continue keeping up with advancements in technology and aerospace innovation to this day.
The synergy between PTDI and the Bandung city government
The momentum of Harteknas 2025 serves as a strengthening point for the synergy between PTDI and the Bandung city government, under the leadership of Muhammad Farhan, to reaffirm Bandung as an Aerospace City.
This identity not only reflects the glory of the past but also carries the vision of a sovereign Indonesia in high technology for the future, particularly in aerospace, with PTDI as its main driving force.
M Farhan hopes that PTDI and the city of Bandung, along with the existing educational institutions in Bandung, can produce human resources that can think about the application of this technology in industry.
The city of Bandung can serve as a vehicle for high technology industries to leap forward, particularly in aerospace technology that will be a legacy for future generations.
"For this reason, I would like to express my profound respect to PTDI, which has shown its strong commitment to remain among us in developing one of the industries with the most sophisticated technology," said Muhammad Farhan in his speech.
In addition to the national seminar, visitors can enjoy the "Wall of Fame" showcasing the long journey of the aerospace industry in Bandung, from the pre-colonial era to the present day.
The President Director of PTDI, Gita Amperiawan, emphasized that Bandung truly deserves to be the hub of national aerospace science and technology.
PTDI has made many achievements and works that are closely linked to the spirit of N250. This journey was certainly not taken alone, but together with the ecosystem that weaves the strengths of the industry, starting from research institutions, universities, the community, to the City Government of Bandung.
In a flashback to history, it proves that Bandung has become a hub for the past and future of Indonesia's aerospace industry, demonstrating that Bandung has had an aerospace DNA since long ago.
